Request: The Pop Situation

The past couple of days have been extra challenging at the Wiggy Mansion.  Pop's dementia has been particularly bad, and we're all having trouble dealing with that.  Along with that, he has fallen several times today, thankfully with no major injuries, but he doesn't like being told to stay put, and we don't like the potential risk of him being up and around.

On a related note, Emily has begun to look for employment in Maine. 

Our prayer needs, then, would be wisdom and patience and endurance in meeting Pop's needs, and a solution to the caregiving situation we will be facing sometime, probably, in the near future.

Welcome Back

After a year of inactivity, I'm pleased to bring back the prayer blog.  One of my 2011 goals is to deepen my prayer life, and I do better when I have some sort of prayer journal, log, blog, whatever.  Of course not all prayer is submitting requests to God, so I'm hoping that this prayer blog will turn into more than just a request list ~ that we can remember God's goodness through praise for answered prayer and blessings, that we can stop and worship Him, whatever... but my primary goal here is to chronicle my 2011 prayer journey.  I'd love to have you come along with me.

From Georgia:

my nephew, matthew, approx. 23 years old, stationed in ft hood, two days ago was in target practice. somehow he got shot. a rubber bullet went into the eye socket and is lodged behind his eyeball. they flew him to san antonio for surgery which is now planned for this coming tuesday. they have stitched his eye shut for now to help reduce the swelling. he is in a lot of pain. the docs say that even removing the bullet will not restore his sight, that it will be limited to seeing light and that is all.

his mom and dad are driving with two foster children to san antonio on sunday. this will be a very challenging trip for them with the two kids as there are some disciplinary issues there. but they did not want to "abandon" the kids as they would not understand. his mom is extremely worried...as all of us parents would be if something like this happened to one of ours.

please pray for matthew for peace and courage facing this surgery and following treatments. pray for a miracle that somehow in God's way they get the bullet out and restore eyesight. and that what ever comes, He will be glorified and that matthew will honor Him with praise and thanksgiving..

pray for his parents, safe travel. that the girls are "good" and don't cause them any more angst over what they bear now. pray please for their faith and encouragement and strength. pray that they rest in knowing God is in control and that in trusting Him the results will be borne in Him.

Please pray for Colleen. She is a 18 year old girl who had cancer of the thyroid. Her Mom, Lynn called me on Christmas Eve and reported that Colleen's surgery went well and she was recovering fine. She said the Doctor thought they got it all but they had to test some of the lymph nodes. I have been waiting for news. I finally heard from Colleen that there is cancer in the lymph nodes so she will require radiation. She is going to have a full body scan first to make sure the cancer has not spread anywhere else in her body. Please continue to pray for her. Thanks for praying!

New Year, New Start, New Things to Pray For

(Answered) Pop - relocation

If you haven't heard the latest news, Pop is moving in with our family in just a few short weeks. His house has been put on the market and is currently in escrow (with a marvelously quick full-price offer), boxes are being packed on his end, furniture is being moved and preparations made on this end, and he is scheduled to arrive Labor Day weekend.

This is awesome and exciting for all of us - but also a very emotional time with a lot of physical work to do. Your prayers for a smooth transition and the peace of Christ in our hearts are welcome and coveted!

Nancy is a intelligent marvelous lady in her 60ish. She knows and loves the Lord. She supported a friend through 4 bouts of breast cancer. Now she just found out she has a cancerous calcification in one breast.

Please keep her prayers that it has not metastasized and easily curable.

Jo's Retirement

The latest on the case: The case has been remanded back to the Judge. The Union Board decided that in light of the new info from my doctor they did want to make any decisions.

Please keep us in prayer for us to find a place for Pop and Mom to live here in northern CO. Our prospects are looking bleak... so we need a lot of prayer! Thanks for praying!!!

surgery to bypass leg artery diverted this am (Fri) when on the way to the hospital his exhibited symptoms of further heart blockage. tomorrow he will
do one of those injected stress tests to determine if and where blockage may be. pray God's hand be upon the procedures, surgeons, etc, and out come.

has a xanthoastrocytoma tumor 60% removed today (Fri) to alleviate pressure. will undergo chemo and radiation to contain the rest.
please pray he accepts Christ as his personal savior, recognizes the greatness, the faithfulness of God, even when we are not. also God's will

The Queen B and her family

I read a blog fairly frequently by a woman named The Queen B. After a recent missions trip to Guatemala, they met a little girl there who stole their hearts. They have begun the process of adopting this little girl, but unfortunately there are lots of complications now in the process. You can read about them here or read more of her blog here.
